How to buy Bitcoin Cash using Bitstamp

An easy-to-use exchange with many fiat deposit methods.

Bitstamp is a great way to buy Bitcoin Cash, especially in Europe. Take a look at the pros and cons and then let’s dive in.

Register for Bitstamp

First of all, you need to go to the Bitstamp website and register for an account. Any action you take related to Bitcoin Cash will need to be confirmed by email, so be sure to use a valid email address

Verify your account

On the left side click Verify Account. You will need scans of your verification documents. If you do not have a scanner you can use an app like Office Lens to make photos of documents look like they were scanned.

This step takes a couple days. You will get a notification email when your verification has been approved or rejected.

Deposit USD or EURO

From the main navigation, click on Deposit. On the left side you’ll be able to choose your payment method.

For this guide we’ll use EU Bank (SEPA). This method requires a bank account located in Europe. If that doesn’t work for you, we’ve written a bit on other payment methods such as bank transfercredit card or AstroPay.

Click on EU Bank (SEPA). Next select a currency and enter how much you’d like to deposit. Once you’re ready click the large Deposit button.

Once complete you should see a screen like this:

Log in to your bank account and make a money transfer using the information that Bitstamp just gave you. Make sure the amount you deposit matches what you declared in the last step, otherwise you may run into issues. Within a few days you should have money in your Bitstamp account.

Purchase Bitcoin Cash.

On the top left corner first click on BTC/USD, and then choose BCH/USD or BCH/EUR from the menu. After that, click on Buy/Sell from the main menu.

This will take you to the Instant Order page. You can also make a Limit Order, but that’s a bit more advanced. Click on the large Buy BCH button.

Now enter the amount you want to buy and click the green BUY BCH button at the bottom of the page.

Congratulations, you now own Bitcoin Cash!

Move your coins to your own wallet

You can leave you Bitcoin Cash on Bitstamp if you like, but that is not recommended. To move your Bitcoin Cash to your own private wallet, click Withdrawal from the main menu.

Choose Bitcoin Cash (BCH) from the left side of the page. Provide your Bitcoin Cash address and the amount you’d like to withdraw. Once you’re ready, click the Withdraw button at the bottom of the page.

Within 48 hours you should have your Bitcoin Cash on your own private wallet.
